Claude Code 2.1.318: verify permissions and saved settings

5 November 2026 · The Useful Byte / SysSeder

Anthropic’s Claude Code 2.1.318 release, published on 4 November, documents fixes for unintended permission-prompt input and false success reports when logout or MCP-removal changes could not be saved on shared network home directories.

It also extends URL-based deniedMcpServers rules to matching Anthropic-provided servers and connectors in cloud sessions or self-hosted runners. Connector URL matching requires the session to receive that URL; otherwise, block by name.

Check the result of the update

For an IT team, the useful question is whether the intended decision survives through the whole workflow: from the prompt to the saved configuration and the next session. Our suggested checks:

  1. Record the version on each execution host. Include developer machines and runners. Check the process that will actually perform the work, rather than assuming that updating one terminal updates every running session.
  2. Review the permission interaction. In a disposable workspace, use a harmless operation that should require approval. Wait for the full prompt and make a deliberate choice. Record whether the action matched that choice.
  3. Check persistence after restart. With a test account and a disposable MCP configuration, remove an entry, reopen the application and confirm the entry is still absent. Investigate save errors before trusting the displayed result. Do not experiment with the only working production login.
  4. Exercise the configured block. Use a test server you control to check the relevant name and URL paths. Confirm that a denied request does not reach that server. A visible block message alone is insufficient evidence of the complete outcome.

Keep a small verification record

Record the version, test environment, intended rule and observed result. Keep credentials and sensitive conversation content out of the record. If the result differs from the intended policy, hold the affected workflow while you investigate.

We have not installed or tested this release. The changes above are vendor-documented fixes; the checklist is our suggested verification procedure, not a report of successful tests.
