Gemini adds in-chat file editing: what works on web and mobile

עברית — לקריאת הכתבה בעברית

30 October 2026 briefing. Google announced this update on 29 October. This report checks the announcement; it is not a hands-on review.

Gemini can now show and edit generated files inside a conversation. Users can make changes themselves in a full-screen view, select text to ask questions, or request revisions from Gemini. Google’s announcement confirms the change.

What works on your device?

  • Web and mobile: PDF preview and editing.
  • Web only: the other named formats, including Google Docs, Sheets, presentations, Markdown, TXT and code.

That platform distinction comes directly from Google’s product announcement. A mobile PDF demonstration should not be read as confirmation that every format has mobile editing.

Availability and export

The Workspace release notice lists availability now for both release tracks, including Workspace customers, Workspace Individual and personal Google accounts with Gemini access. It also describes opening generated spreadsheets in Sheets and presentations in Slides, or downloading presentations as PPTX or PDF. There is no separate admin switch for this feature; overall Gemini access still matters.

A useful first test

Our suggestion: start with a short, non-sensitive document. Ask for a PDF, change one sentence manually, request a second edit, then inspect the exported file. For Hebrew, check right-to-left paragraphs, punctuation, numbers and mixed English text. Compare names and figures against the original rather than treating a polished preview as proof of accuracy.

For everyday work, this could reduce switching between chat and document editors. The practical question is whether the final file preserves the content and layout you need.
